Howling Winds Chambermaids Workshop

As part of our Howling Winds woodwind and brass celebration renowned wind quintet ‘The Chambermaids’ will be presenting a workshop for all interested in wind music and performance.
All members of the public who play a woodwind or brass instrument (or those just interested) are invited to come along and join in an informative and fun afternoon of wind music. In late breaking news, the Orange North Rotary Club will be hosting another of their awesome BBQ’s after the concert, helping raise funds for the Guide Dogs Association (and feed hungry musicians).

Age 4-7yrs, Learn a Disney classic – Singing and movement, with a performance at the end of the session!

Want to be a Pop Diva or Divo? Learn with the ORC’s new contemporary singing teacher Amelia Nell – a song, about the style, pop tricks and mic techniques.

Have you ever wanted sing more than ‘Hallelujah’ from Handel’s famous Hallelujah chorus? Come and learn this amazing chorus in 4 parts in just 2 hours.

10am – 12pm Learn your ABC’s List A (Preliminary – Grade 4)
Prepare for your upcoming AMEB exams, accompanist provided, tailored to every instrument and every grade.

10am – 12pm String Improvisation Workshop
Learn how to improvise on your stringed instrument, using jazz, folk and blues patterns to create music and have fun on your instrument. Also recommended for string teachers interested in learning how to teach individuals and ensembles outside of the AMEB and classical syllabus programs.

1pm – 2pm Auxiliary Skills – Aural Skills (Preliminary – Grade 4)
An interactive session to learn and adapt to the challenges of the Auxiliary skills in preparation of your AMEB exam.

2pm – 3pm Auxiliary Skills – Aural Skills (Grade 5 – Certificate of Performance)
An interactive session to learn and adapt to the challenges of the Auxiliary skills in preparation of your AMEB exam.

2pm – 4pm Sing with Confidence
The voice is a strange instrument! It can leave us feeling very vulnerable when asked to perform. Come and join a discussion and learn to identify insecurities and how to manage them. More than just imagining that you are singing to an audience in their underwear. For all ages

Learn the basics of mindfulness meditation and how to incorporate it into your daily life. Discover how music can be incorporated into your meditation through listening and playing. BYO instruments and playing optionalAll ages. Children welcome if accompanied by adults

7pm – 8pm Q&A – All about singing in choirs
Why does the conductor ask us to do that? What is the point of choral warm ups? Bring all your questions about choirs whether you’re in a choir or not? Plus there will be some singing too!

Friday 13 July

10am – 12pm Create A Song
Learn how to craft a song using your own instrument and/or voice. In this workshop, you will learn the principles of songwriting and how to package this into a 3-4 minute song of your own creation, and how technology such as looping can help the writing process. All instruments welcome, minimum ability one year on your chosen instrument. Acoustic instrumentalists strongly encouraged.

GuitarFest

The ORC is lucky enough to have five guitar teachers from a wide range of styles and backgrounds. To celebrate this they are presenting GuitarFest, an afternoon of workshops, masterclasses and concerts for all skill levels and interests.
As a bonus, all participants will also receive FREE entry to the Callum Henshaw concert that evening.

GYPSY JAZZ GUITAR 2pm | $5
Learn the fundamentals of this iconic and fun style from jazz guitarist Andrew French-Northam. Explore the techniques and tools used to play like Django!

CLASSICAL GUITAR 101 3pm | $5

Expert guitar educator Matt Arthur will teach high school students vital skills to maximise results and achieve their full potential.

School Holiday Workshops

Looking for something musical to do these July School Holidays? Are you an AMEB or HSC student? The ORC is offering a huge selection of workshops and masterclasses with something for everyone, plus some exciting guest artists.

This year will feature a special selection of workshops specifically for AMEB and HSC students. Exams are just around the corner, to help everyone achieve their best we’ve got sessions covering Composition, Aural and Technical work, Musicianship and more!

We’re also very excited to be bringing two special guests to deliver masterclasses. Tim Hansen is a renowned composer who will use his extensive experience to work with HSC composition students. Lisa Cooper will also be joining us to deliver two exciting vocals workshops, Lisa is an exceptionally talented Soprano who worked with Opera Australia for over 10 years.
