Australia’s most acclaimed vocal quartet is making its way to the Orange Regional Conservatorium this winter.
The multi-ARIA award winning foursome, comprised of Sally Cameron (soprano), Naomi Crellin (alto), Nick Begbie (tenor) and Andrew Piper (bass) will be hosting a Professional Development Day for vocal music teachers from across Orange on Wednesday 12th of August, with a community workshop and concert on the 15th.
The workshop will provide members of the community of all ages some hands on experience with some of Australia’s most talented singers, including voice coaching and advice on how to improve vocal skills.
In 2003 TION won The Harmony Sweepstakes in the USA. This is one of the largest international a cappella competitions in the world, open to any a cappella group of three to seven people singing in any musical style or genre.
The group originally formed back in 1993, and at first was only a means of fun for four musically minded friends – but soon grew into a musical phenomenon.
“It was a total fluke how we formed the quartet… At first we were just having fun, but we had such a massive crowd form at our first CD launch that we knew we could take it further,” Mr Begbie said.
Mr Begbie said the group is excited to visit the ORC, and particularly enjoys performing in regional areas due to having a more receptive and lively audience.
“Some of our most appreciative audiences come from the country and regional areas… A lot of people don’t do it (perform regionally) but we love it,” he said.
The quartet will perform a range of different songs on the night, including jazz, folk, pop, gospel and even a bit of comedy for a few laughs.
“There is definitely something for everyone,” Mr Begbie said.
The Professional Development Day will run from 12pm-5:30pm on Wednesday August 12th, the workshop from 11am-12:30pm on Saturday the 15th and the concert starts at 7pm Saturday night. Tickets can be purchased at the Orange Regional Conservatorium. Package deals for both the workshop and concert, as well as large groups are available.
Renowned Australian song writer Mike Carr, will be hosting a song-writing workshop at the Orange Regional Conservatorium’s annual Winter Workshops these upcoming school holidays.
Winner of two Golden Guitar awards, Mike has written well-known country songs for Adam Brand and Melissa Schneider, to name a few.
The song-writing workshop with Mike Carr and well-known local musician Kyle Manning, will run over two days on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th June – cost $40.
The Winter Workshop program will also include many other exciting music workshops including Glee Workshops; Guitar Start Up; Test Drive the Violin and a Piano Masterclass with ORC piano teacher Meriel Owen. These workshops are $10/session and will be held over two weeks from Monday 29th June to Friday 10th July.
All workshops will be held at the Orange Regional Conservatorium, 73a Hill Street, and are open to everyone – not just the kids. There is a workshop for all ages and abilities.
ORC Music Director, Donna Riles is thoroughly excited to be offering these workshops to the Orange community, “It is important for the ORC and the Orange community to be able to offer these workshops that increase music accessibility and music education delivery to more than just our regular students. Make your holiday’s fun and come and sign up for a workshop of two.”
