This July School Holidays we are once again presenting our Winter Workshop series. This year features loads of really fun workshops for singers and instrumentalists, with a focus on AMEB exam preparation.

Monday 9 July

10am – 12pm Glee Club A Touch of Disney
Age 4-7yrs, Learn a Disney classic – Singing and movement, with a performance at the end of the session!

Want to be a Pop Diva or Divo? Learn with the ORC’s new contemporary singing teacher Amelia Nell – a song, about the style, pop tricks and mic techniques.

5:30pm – 7:30pm Sing the HallelujahChorus
Have you ever wanted sing more than ‘Hallelujah’ from Handel’s famous Hallelujah chorus? Come and learn this amazing chorus in 4 parts in just 2 hours.

Wednesday 11 July

10am – 12pm Learn your ABC’s List A (Preliminary – Grade 4)
Prepare for your upcoming AMEB exams, accompanist provided, tailored to every instrument and every grade.

10am – 12pm String Improvisation Workshop
Learn how to improvise on your stringed instrument, using jazz, folk and blues patterns to create music and have fun on your instrument. Also recommended for string teachers interested in learning how to teach individuals and ensembles outside of the AMEB and classical syllabus programs.

1pm – 2pm Auxiliary Skills – Aural Skills (Preliminary – Grade 4)
An interactive session to learn and adapt to the challenges of the Auxiliary skills in preparation of your AMEB exam.

2pm – 3pm Auxiliary Skills – Aural Skills (Grade 5 – Certificate of Performance)
An interactive session to learn and adapt to the challenges of the Auxiliary skills in preparation of your AMEB exam.

2pm – 4pm Sing with Confidence
The voice is a strange instrument! It can leave us feeling very vulnerable when asked to perform. Come and join a discussion and learn to identify insecurities and how to manage them. More than just imagining that you are singing to an audience in their underwear. For all ages

Learn the basics of mindfulness meditation and how to incorporate it into your daily life. Discover how music can be incorporated into your meditation through listening and playing. BYO instruments and playing optionalAll ages. Children welcome if accompanied by adults

7pm – 8pm Q&A – All about singing in choirs
Why does the conductor ask us to do that? What is the point of choral warm ups? Bring all your questions about choirs whether you’re in a choir or not? Plus there will be some singing too!

Friday 13 July

10am – 12pm Create A Song
Learn how to craft a song using your own instrument and/or voice. In this workshop, you will learn the principles of songwriting and how to package this into a 3-4 minute song of your own creation, and how technology such as looping can help the writing process. All instruments welcome, minimum ability one year on your chosen instrument. Acoustic instrumentalists strongly encouraged.

GuitarFest

The ORC is lucky enough to have five guitar teachers from a wide range of styles and backgrounds. To celebrate this they are presenting GuitarFest, an afternoon of workshops, masterclasses and concerts for all skill levels and interests.
As a bonus, all participants will also receive FREE entry to the Callum Henshaw concert that evening.

Choral Gala – Selections from Mendelssohn’s Elijah

Tickets for the ORC biggest Choral Event are now on sale at ORC Admin or online here.

The Orange Regional Conservatorium’s annual choral celebration will this year feature Mendelssohn’s captivating work Elijah, inspired by the life of the Old Testament Prophet. Conductor Ben Macpherson OAM will lead the combined choirs of the Conservatorium through selections of the oratorio, supported by Orange Youth Orchestra.
The Choral Gala is another of the ORC’s community driven events, bringing together all lovers of singing to perform inspiring and challenging works.

Expression of Interest
Singing Teacher
The ORC is seeking an expression of interest for the role of Singing Teacher, to join our expanding and dynamic vocal team.
It is essential that the applicant have a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor Music Education (or minimum 5 year industry experience), have a contemporary music focus, be familiar with and have experience teaching the AMEB syllabus in Singing, Singing for Leisure, Musical Theatre, CPM and be a practising performer. 

Applicants must have the ability to work in a team, work with youth and the changing voice. 
Piano keyboard skills and a willingness to work in schools are desirable.
This is a casual position with potential to become permanent. The successful applicant should be prepared to begin the week commencing 30th April 2018.

Canberra-born classical guitarist Callum Henshaw is considered one of Australia’s leading young players. He has had success in a number of major national and international competitions, including First Prize at the 2012 Cordoba International Guitar Competition in Spain, the 2014 Tirana International Guitar Competition in Albania, and the 2015 Friends of the ANU School of Music Chamber Music Competition with Andrew Blanch. He also won the First Prize and the People’s Choice Prize at the 2016 open instrumental Whitworth Roach Classical Music Competition. Most recently, Cal placed first in the 2017 Melbourne International Concert Artist Guitar Competition.
