Women of Song

Women of Song

Women of Song is an innovative new show, developed by the acclaimed Jessie Lloyd (of Mission Songs Project). It includes themes of intergenerational practices, singing on and from country, commitment to community, and preserving knowledge in song. It’s an intimate celebration of the ‘here and now’ of Indigenous culture, a rare mix of spontaneous conversation and songs. It explores the modern-day practice and living heart of the ‘world’s oldest living culture’.

The audience listens in as three First Nations singers have a conversation. Someone’s story may remind someone else of a song, or a favourite popular song might start a discussion among them all. Each conversation and each performance will be unique, as the women, live on stage, explore how their songs preserve the social, cultural, or environmental shifts of a community, and deepen connections to country, genealogy, and custom.

As Creative Producer, Jessie Lloyd brings together the artists for each tour, uniquely shaping the performance to the location: some will be well-known, others are exciting new talent. Preparation includes extensive cultural consultation undertaken by Jessie across 2022.

Women of Song is an amazing opportunity to experience First Nations cultural practices in music from the women that practise them: this culture exists in contemporary music, and these First Nations women are leading it.

Sally Greenaway

Curated specially for the enjoyment of piano enthusiasts, Piano Music For Discoverers is a collection of 12 original compositions for piano by Australian composer Sally Greenaway.

You are invited to an exclusive launch with celebrated Australian composer Sally Greenaway

Meet Sally and enjoy a lively discussion with the composer as well as performance "previews" of some of the beautiful pieces contained in this collection, which is designed for pianists from Intermediate to Advanced levels. ORC piano teachers will perform.

Piano Music for Discoverers (vol 1)
Ideally suited for teenagers and adults, the pieces span a range of moods and colours - from peaceful to joyful and everything in between - to stimulate your imagination at the piano.

Progressing through a range of difficulty levels, from grades 3-8 (early-intermediate to advanced), there are pieces to suit every type of pianist, and Sally has included specially arranged versions of her most popular chamber and orchestral works for solo piano in this collection.

As a leading composer of her generation, Sally’s music expresses our most intimate to grandiose experiences of our world, with a strong focus on nature, Australian landscape, and the beauty in humanity - and these themes are present throughout this volume of pieces, with titles such as The Blue Mountains, The Secret Garden and Perhaps Tomorrow.

Each of the pieces in the book has been recorded by celebrated pianist Alan Hicks, and can be accessed via the book’s QR code found inside its cover.

Piano enthusiast Skye Baines shares her insights into the book, “one of the things I most love is Sally’s encouragement for players to make the pieces their own. They are enjoyable to play, and my family enjoy hearing them played as well.”

Australian Ukulele Orchestra |Workshop and Concert

Some fantastic news for all you uke enthusiasts based in NSW Central West.

In association with the Orange Regional Conservatorium the AUO is pleased to announce their first regional event for 2023.

This one will be a 1-hour workshop then a 1-hour concert. In the workshop you will learn a jazz piece which you can then play with the orchestra during the concert.

It's shaping up to be a big year for the AUO. We are trying to finalise a few other regional and interstate events later in the year, so stay tuned. We need the planets to line-up to make this work, but we are confident the Gods are smiling on us.

In the meantime, book early for the Orange gig as seating is limited.
