Orange Youth Orchestra presents our 2016 Concerto Concert on Saturday 12th November at 3:30pm. A concerto is the opportunity for a solo instrumentalist to shine in front of an orchestra.
Each year young musicians audition for a chance to be a soloist at our annual Concerto Concert. This year’s winners are Molly Straney, Sophie McKay and Rebekah Rae. These students and the Orange Youth Orchestra prepare all year for this concert, it a pinnacle of their work.
The Orange Youth Orchestra is conducted by Prem Love and will feature Molly Straney with a Violin Concerto in C Major by Kabalevsky, Sophie McKay and Rebekah Rae with Concert Piece No. 1 for clarinet duo by Mendelssohn.
The Concerto Concert competition winners have had a very busy year. Molly Straney has recently completed her HSC and is completing her Duke of Edinburgh Award. She completed her Certificate of Performance in violin with the Australian Music Examination Board in 2015. Molly has been a student of the Orange Regional Conservatorium from a young age and is under the tutelage of Alina Zborowski. Rebekah Rae is in year 11 and beginning her HSC prep already. Sophie McKay has completed her HSC this year. Sophie is a 6th Grade clarinettist and is under the tutelage of renowned woodwind tutor, Laith Ismail.

2016 will offer you a full musical year. We kick off the 2016 event calendar with The Enchanted Flute which is performed by visiting musicians Melissa Doecke and Mark Isaacs, Tuesday 1st March. All of our visiting musicians will be offering ORC students and the Orange community masterclasses or workshops. This is such an exciting opportunity for a regional conservatorium!
We are forever growing and developing our ensembles and choirs for anyone and everyone to be involved in. Being part of an ensemble is not only beneficial for your musicality and performance but also your overall wellbeing and health. Have a look at our ensemble page to find out more.
The Come Together Choir are now rehearsing at the ORC on Tuesdays 10am – 12noon, instead of the previous location of the Orange Senior Citizens Centre on Kite Street. The Symphonic Choir are pushing to be a substantial performing choir this year with lots of performances already planned about booked. They will no longer be restrained to the school terms for rehearsals and instead of $95/term ($95 x 4 = $380) is is now only $350 for a full year membership! The Symphonic Choir closed off 2015 by performing at the Sydney Town Hall with Ben Macpherson OAM and then turned around and presented a magical evening at Orange’s St James Church with an evening of traditional carols and song.
We hope that you have a fabulous 2016 and we look forward to making music with you.
