Orange Youth Orchestra presents our 2016 Concerto Concert on Saturday 12th November at 3:30pm. A concerto is the opportunity for a solo instrumentalist to shine in front of an orchestra.
Each year young musicians audition for a chance to be a soloist at our annual Concerto Concert. This year’s winners are Molly Straney, Sophie McKay and Rebekah Rae. These students and the Orange Youth Orchestra prepare all year for this concert, it a pinnacle of their work.
The Orange Youth Orchestra is conducted by Prem Love and will feature Molly Straney with a Violin Concerto in C Major by Kabalevsky, Sophie McKay and Rebekah Rae with Concert Piece No. 1 for clarinet duo by Mendelssohn.
The Concerto Concert competition winners have had a very busy year. Molly Straney has recently completed her HSC and is completing her Duke of Edinburgh Award. She completed her Certificate of Performance in violin with the Australian Music Examination Board in 2015. Molly has been a student of the Orange Regional Conservatorium from a young age and is under the tutelage of Alina Zborowski. Rebekah Rae is in year 11 and beginning her HSC prep already. Sophie McKay has completed her HSC this year. Sophie is a 6th Grade clarinettist and is under the tutelage of renowned woodwind tutor, Laith Ismail.
A concert that will really surprise and delight audiences. Relax with the ORC this Saturday 12th November 3:30pm. Free entry.

The Orange Male Voice Choir is excited to present a special concert at the Orange Civic Theatre on Saturday 5th November to celebrate 90 years of the OMVC.
This concert will have Guest Conductor, Paul Jarman and guest choirs; Adelaide Male Voice Choir, Woden Vally Youth Choir and Kinross Wolaroi School Choir.

The Orange Regional Conservatorium are excited to announce their annual Chamber Music Series is on again!
The concert series showcases the extraordinary talent offered by ORCs professional musicians. All of our performers are proud to call Orange their home and look forward to performing for their region throughout the Chamber Music Series. The series is under the direction of creative directors Ana Castillo and Laith Ismail.
This concert series has always been well received with sell out audiences. The concert series consists of 3 themed concerts with this year’s theme being Moments in Time. Each concert commences with nibbles and refreshments at 6:30pm – 7pm, music from 7pm until 7:45pm. The event is a wonderful way to start your weekend and unwind.

Performances by Meriel Owen, Kate Rose, Lujia Zhang, Heejin Kim and Andrew Callaghan.

The ORC are running a raffle over the Open Garden and Music Weekend – Saturday 29th October – Sunday 30th October.
Tickets will be sold at the gate from 10am – 2:30pm.

3rd Prize – $25 voucher, Millthorpe Providore
The raffle will be drawn on Sunday at 2:30pm. Winners will be notified by phone and posted on the ORC website and Facebook.

Open Garden and Music Weekend is held at 1 Squatters Ridge, $10 donation entry for adults.

Blayney Shire has a wealth of musical talent and the Blayney Shire Music Scholarship program helps such students to take their gift to the next level to further their music studies.
Blayney Shire Council in conjunction with Mitchell Conservatorium and Orange Regional Conservatorium offer music tuition scholarships and encouragement awards for students aged between 7 and 18 years. Scholarships are subsidised in part by Council with private sector sponsorship and are offered on an annual basis. Students must reside in the Blayney Shire be able to demonstrate a commitment to the same.
Scholarships will include, in the normal course, tuition, musicianship and ensemble activity. The award will be individually tailored by the relevant Conservatorium to meet the recipient’s specific needs commencing Term 1, 2017 and offers four awards as follows:
- 2 music scholarships of $1,500 each
- 2 encouragement awards of $750 each
Applications are now being invited with a closing date of 21 October 2016 with auditions scheduled soon after the closing date. Auditions are held in Blayney. Application forms are made available from Council’s Office or can be downloaded from Council’s website.
The form must be returned fully completed by the due date attract a non-refundable entry fee of $11.00.
